STPI Presents "New Releases Old Friends": A Celebration of Artistic Innovation

STPI – Creative Workshop & Gallery launches "New Releases Old Friends," bringing together five internationally acclaimed artists in Singapore from March 22 to May 4, 2025. This exhibition showcases new works by Angela Bulloch, Janice Kerbel, and Tobias Rehberger alongside earlier pieces by Richard Deacon and Pae White, all created during their residencies at STPI's Visiting Artists Programme.

"New Releases Old Friends is an ode to community, and the longstanding friendships STPI has made since our establishment in 2002," says Emi Eu, Executive Director of STPI. "The exhibiting artists are not just challenging the boundaries of printmaking and papermaking, but also weave new narratives into Singapore's art scene."

Exhibition Highlights

Venice Biennale Golden Lion recipient Tobias Rehberger presents his "stained" tablecloth series that invites audience interaction. Using 3D modeling to create images resembling stains, Rehberger continues his practice of disrupting perceptions of everyday objects.

Turner Prize nominee Angela Bulloch pioneered a "laser-off" technique for her Non-Euclid Intercontinental series, exploring the interplay between digital and material dimensions. Janice Kerbel examines swimming pool designs by shaping papers into various pool forms that bridge visual art and typography, offering new ways to interpret visual forms.

Richard Deacon's experiments with marbled paper techniques resulted in three-dimensional sculptures inspired by Singapore's Housing Development Board flats, demonstrating paper's potential as a structural medium. Pae White contributes her UNLOST series of flocked works simulating multicolored, overlapping threads, inspired by her notable thread installations.

The exhibition coincides with STPI's annual Open House on March 22-23, 2025, offering the public an inside look at the Creative Workshop and hands-on experience with printmaking and papermaking techniques.
