Michelin-starred chef Pierre Gagnaire, often referred to as the "Picasso of the Kitchen", has crafted an exclusive range of finger foods specifically for the Perrier-Jouët POP UP event titled “The House of Wonder” in Tokyo, scheduled from October 12th to 29th, 2023. These creations are specially designed for this event, celebrating the fine art of pairing.
Gagnaire emphasizes the profound connection between food and champagne, noting, "Eating and drinking are significant acts. Regardless of the dish or drink, one should immerse oneself fully. Champagne, especially Perrier-Jouët, is a work of art - a result of cultivation, of seasons, and of elements like the sun and wind. Behind each bottle is a story of people who harvested the grapes. Both the champagne and the food deserve respect, as each bite and sip result from the collective effort and thought of many."
Sharing his philosophy, Gagnaire says, "A bite is a fleeting moment, a burst in the mouth. It should pop, akin to a sip of champagne. Through sight, smell, and taste, it should evoke an immediate sense of delight, creating an emotional jolt. It must be flavorful, not too overpowering, and perfectly paired with the drink, reflecting the diversity, freshness, and clarity of champagne."
His culinary universe is driven by the quality and authenticity of the ingredients. "It reflects the elegance, naturalness, and expression of a terroir that the entire world envies," he shares. For him, the relationships he's built over the years with individuals driven by a passion for excellence add layers of emotion and pleasure to both his dishes and the champagnes they accompany.
Gagnaire concludes with deep gratitude for the collaboration, "It's an honor and a privilege to share my knowledge with such a prestigious and timeless house. I'm thrilled to be a small part of the grand narrative of Maison Perrier-Jouët, one of France's crown jewels."
