JANET YANG RE-ELECTED ACADEMY PRESIDENT


The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has elected its new officers for the 2024-2025 term. Producer Janet Yang has been re-elected as president for her third term.

Producer Janet Yang elected President


Yang, who is entering her sixth year as a Governor-at-Large, has been a member of the Academy's Producers Branch since 2002. Her notable producing credits include "The Joy Luck Club" and "The People vs. Larry Flynt." She also received an Oscar nomination for the animated feature "Over the Moon" and won an Emmy for the HBO film "Indictment: The McMartin Trial."


The newly elected vice presidents are:

- Lesley Barber (chair, Membership Committee)

- DeVon Franklin (chair, Equity and Inclusion Committee)

- Donna Gigliotti (chair, Finance Committee and Treasurer)

- Lynette Howell Taylor (chair, Awards Committee)

- Howard A. Rodman (chair, Governance Committee and Secretary)


Franklin, Howell Taylor, and Rodman were re-elected to their positions. Gigliotti has previously served as an officer, while this will be Barber's first term as an officer.


Academy CEO Bill Kramer expressed his enthusiasm for the new leadership team, stating, "I am thrilled to have Janet return as Academy President for a third term to continue our great work of the past two years. I also am so pleased to welcome this year's incredible slate of dedicated board officers."


Kramer added that he looks forward to collaborating with the officers and governors to advance the Academy's mission, serve its global membership, celebrate international filmmaking, ensure financial health, and broaden the organization's reach within the industry.


The Board of Governors plays a crucial role in setting the Academy's strategic vision, maintaining its financial stability, and ensuring the fulfillment of its mission. Board members can serve up to two three-year terms, followed by a two-year hiatus, after which they become eligible for up to two additional three-year terms. Officers serve one-year terms, with a maximum of four consecutive years in any one office.
